Dougherty Honored by Afrika Yetu Organization
University President Charles J. Dougherty received the Nelson Mandela Leadership and Diversity Award from Afrika Yetu, a support group for African immigrants.

Drago Named Vice President
Linda S. Drago has been named Vice President for Legal Affairs and General Counsel by the Board of Directors.

Duquesne Only Area School in Global Top 20
Duquesne is ranked second worldwide among schools of its size and is the only school in Ohio, West Virginia and Pennsylvania included in the top 20 ranked by the Aspen Institute for integrating social and environmental issues into its MBA program.

Duquesne Listed Again in Princeton Review’s
“Best 301 Business Schools”

Nursing School Receives Scholarship Grant
The School of Nursing has received $500,000 from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation to provide financial assistance to second-degree and graduate students.

Magazine Wins Golden Triangle Awards
Duquesne University Magazine was recognized by the International Association of Business Communicators in the categories of Publications/Magazines, Publication Design/Magazines and Feature Writing. The judges’ comments included: “nice, big photos, good use of call-outs, compelling, relevant and interesting articles that show a real connection with alumni. As good as it gets for a magazine.”

Men’s Basketball vs. Pitt: Wednesday, Dec. 2
Don’t miss the last college basketball game in historic Mellon Arena. Tickets may be ordered through Ticketmaster; register for the pre-game buffet at MyDuquesne.

Young Alumni Food Drive: Wednesday, Dec. 2
The Young Alumni Council will conduct a food drive in conjunction with the men’s basketball game against Pitt. Donations will be collected at the pre-game event in the Power Center Ballroom; curbside drop-off will also be available.

Breakfast with Santa: Saturday, Dec. 5
Bring the children to the Union Ballroom for food, crafts, games, and a visit with the jolly one himself. Seating is limited; register today!

Violence and Splendor Open Lecture

Alfonso Lingis of Penn State will explore the experience of existence in the first person singular; the nature of making contact with another as opposed to interpreting the other through various contexts; and the biological and psychological nature of the drive for splendor. Sustainability Symposium: Tuesday, Nov. 10
The third annual Beard Symposium on Sustainability will focus on financial, social and environmental responsibility—the new “triple bottom line” for business. The daylong event features speakers, discussion panels and the inaugural Green to Gold award, for an American firm whose business practices are profitable and sustainable.

Three Added to Sports Hall of Fame
New England Patriots defensive back Leigh Bodden, former WNBA player Candace Futrell (pictured) and Orlando Sharks soccer forward Damien Pottinger were inducted into Duquesne’s Sports Hall of Fame on Oct. 30.

Duquesne Ranked 67 in College Basketball History
Duquesne men's basketball earned the No. 67 spot in computer guru Jeff Sagarin's comprehensive computer rankings of the nation's 330 NCAA Division I programs.

Basketball Season Opens Nov. 13
The Duquesne men, projected to finish tied for fifth in the Atlantic 10 pre-season poll, open at home facing Nicholls State, while the women, projected sixth in the preseason A-10 poll, have a road date with Cornell.
